| 1st - 6th | HP to the east and LP over Iberia maintains an easterly flow. A bank of stratus moves over the UK from the North Sea leading to cloudier conditions from the 3rd. |
| 7th - 17th | The pattern changes as LPs from the Atlantic break through the HP blocking. 'Wave' front brings overnight rain and some showers in the afternoon of the 7th. Becoming rather windy and mostly dull, with rain mostly falling from late afternoon and at night. The 11th was a fine day but the 13th was rainy from mid morning, brightening only late afternoon. Continuing dull with outbreaks of mostly light rain. |
| 18th - 25th | Although LP remains never far away, conditions turn more settled and much brighter with the exception of the 21st which was a very dull day. From the 22nd to 24th the southern UK lies in a col with HP to east and west, LP to north and south. |
| 26th - 31st | Conditions deteriorate as LP tracks through the English Channel and into France, the Bank Holiday weekend of the 27th and 28th being particularly awful for the time of year with 48 hours of broken, but long spells of rain. The daytime maximum for the 28th was the lowest recorded for any date in May at this site. Remaining unsettled with showers. |

| ‡ SUN: Sunshine hours are calculated approximately and solely from solar radiation readings, but note that the solar sensor's exposure to sunshine is rather limited. The sensor receives approx 75% of total possible sunshine exposure this month, and there is no allowance for sunshine by visual observation only, so the figures above can be very significantly less than the actual daily sunshine duration. |
| Barometer trend (previous 3 hours) : f = falling, st = steady, r = rising; q = quickly, s = slowly |
