OCTOBER 2007
|
||
| 1st - 7th | A gloomy and wet start to the month with LP to the SW and fronts crossing the southern UK from SSW to NNE on the 1st. Becoming brighter and milder as HP again ridges across the SE. Fog 7th am. |
| 8th - 15th | A dull day on the 8th precedes a LP that brings moderate and occasionally heavy rain for some hours through the middle of the day on the 9th. More rain during the early hours of the 10th. A foggy start to the 11th, 13th, 14th & 15th. |
| 16th - 23rd | A band of rain crosses the UK on the 16th, heavy in the midlands but fizzling out by the time it reaches the SE overnight. Much brighter and fresher weather with long sunny periods follows with HP over the UK and Ireland. Cloudy on 20th as HP starts to move eastward towards southern Scandinavia. Sunny day on 21st but fog on morning of 22nd before turning cloudy again and another reverse as the 23rd sees unbroken sunshine. |
| 24th - 31st | LP near Iceland and HP extending weakly from the Azores to stronger HP over the Baltic States and Russia. Rather dismal with Anticyclonic gloom from the 24th - 26th. On the 27th more mobile SW'lies cover the UK, with complex low pressure to the north and west, and a high over France. Frontal light rain during morning and afternoon of 28th. A sunny end to the month. |

| * Compared to average since 1984 ‡ SUN: Sunshine hours are calculated approximately and solely from solar radiation readings, but note that the solar sensor's exposure to sunshine is limited. The sensor receives only 75% of total possible sunshine exposure this month. There is no allowance for sunshine by visual observation only, so the sunniest day figures above can be very significantly less than the actual daily sunshine duration. THW = Shaded Heat Index calculated with cooling/warming effect of wind and humidity to give an apparent temperature. THSW = Unshaded Heat Index calculated with cooling/warming effect of wind, humidity and full direct sunshine to give an apparent temperature. EVAPO-TRANSPIRATION is drying effect due to sun and wind, and is equivalent to "negative rainfall" |
