FEBRUARY 2008
|
||
| 1st - 7th | A bright start as LP moves away into Scandinavia followed by another to NW of Scotland and HP in SE Europe. More LPs transit quickly across N Scotland. Rain overnight 3rd/4th. Rain early morning 5th and heavy showers pm. |
| 8th - 13th | HP lies over Germany/Austria and LPs continue to track past N Scotland, a rather mild airstream. Fog mornings of 8th and 9th clearing by 10am. Frost melt gives rainfall reading on 10th but a sunny day throughout, as were 11th, 12th & 13th. |
| 14th - 20th | HP lies to NE, moving SSE and leaving the UK under a ridge. A dry airstream with notably large diurnal ranges of temperature on the 17th and 18th, precipitation resulting from frost melt. |
| 21st - 24th | HP lies to SE with LPs to W and N. 22nd and 23rd rather dull with only fleeting brightness. Ridge of HP over S England on 24th. |
| 25th - 29th | Becoming increasingly unsettled as deep LPs track eastward past N Scotland. Mostly dull on the 28th and 29th with a wet and windy end to the month. |

| ‡ SUN: Sunshine hours are calculated approximately and solely from solar radiation readings, but note that the solar sensor's exposure to sunshine is limited. The sensor receives only up to 65% of total possible sunshine exposure this month due to obstruction. There is no allowance for sunshine by visual observation only, so the sunniest day figures above can be very significantly less than the actual daily sunshine duration. THW = Shaded Heat Index calculated with cooling/warming effect of wind and humidity to give an apparent temperature. THSW = Unshaded Heat Index calculated with cooling/warming effect of wind, humidity and full direct sunshine to give an apparent temperature. EVAPO-TRANSPIRATION is drying effect due to sun and wind, and is equivalent to "negative rainfall" |
