1st
UK lies in a col with LP to north and south and HP to west and east. A very dull and gloomy day with most of the country under unmoving low cloud.
2nd
An overcast and rather dull day with persistent light drizzle from mid-morning and a spell of rain in early evening.
3rd
Remaining largely overcast again but with some more broken cloud and rather less dull. Some intermittent light drizzle again in the middle of the day.
4th
A very dull and overcast day with some light drizzle in the morning, as low cloud again smothers much of the country.
5th
After some drizzle first thing, becoming brighter with a brief moment of sunshine in the middle of the day. Clouding over later with a light rain shower as the cold front finally clears the cloudsheet SEwards at the end of the day.
6th
A clear start with a ground frost. A sunny day with just a few wisps of cloud in the afternoon. Temperature falls quickly in the early part of the night.
7th
Cloudy morning with a short spell of light drizzle around 10.00. Becoming brighter and mild in the middle of the day with a short sunny spell, before cold front passage brings a short rain shower and a sharp drop in temperature around 15.00.
8th
A bright start with patchy cloud clearing to give a long sunny spell in the morning. More clouds in the afternoon but with sunny intervals.
9th
LP 942 & 955 hPa near Iceland. Bright morning with high cloud, a sunny spell in the morning. Becoming more cloudy from early afternoon with rain arriving in the evening.

Spell of rain in the early morning as fronts move eastwards, a mild and windy night. Cooler and clear first thing with a long period of sunshine. Cloudier for a spell in early afternoon.
11th
LP 962 hPa Norwegian Sea. Rather cloudy at first, clearing to give sunny spells until the middle of the day. A cloudy afternoon.
12th
Deepening LP 991 hPa Southern Ireland traverses to 984 hPa Norfolk during the night. Prolonged heavy rain in the early hours and briefly torrential as a squall line passes just before 07.00h. Staying cloudy with a rain shower in mid afternoon.
13th
Bright morning with cloud slowly clearing to the SE. Spells of weak sunshine at first, with a long sunny period in the afternoon. Temperature fall rapidly below freezing in the evening.
14th
A heavy ground frost and coldest night of 2014 to date. Temperature remains below freezing until 10.50, rising very rapidly in the hour after 11.00. Spells of slightly hazy sunshine, longer in the morning. Clouding over late afternoon with a spell of rain in the night.
15th
Light rain continues overnight with another spell of light rain before sunrise. A clear and sunny start to the day but becoming cloudy a little after midday.
16th
A day with long sunny periods before and after midday but a little more hazy in the afternoon. A spell of rain from a warm front begins in the hour before midnight.
17th
Rain continues overnight into the early hours. An overcast and dull start to the day. Brighter for a short spell but becoming overcast again by the afternoon..
18th
An overcast day, mainly rather dull throughout.
19th
A spell of rain in the rush hour as cold front passes and temperature falls. Cloud clearing during the morning to give some long sunny spells especially in early afternoon.

HP 1037 hPa S of Ireland and W of Biscay. Bright morning with a few sunny intervals, rather cloudy in the afternoon.

An overcast day and rather dull at times.
22nd
A repeat of the previous day: overcast and very dull except for a spell in the middle of the day.

Rather cloudy but with some brighter spells and a few short sunny intervals.

LP 993 hPa off NW Scotland. Dull start with short spell of drizzle and light rain from passage of warm and cold fronts from the NW. Brightening up after mid-morning with a couple of sunny spells.
25th
HP 1037 hPa SW of Ireland, LP 1008 hPa Denmark. A clear and sunny morning. More cloud after midday with some sunny intervals but sky clearing by the end of the day.
26th
LP 1008 hPa Ireland deepening and moving ESE. Cloudy and rather dull, becoming overcast with rain starting just before 16.00 and heavy for a time in the evening. Pressure falls rapidly after midday.
27th
LP deepens to 997 hPa overnight as it moves into the Thames Estuary and eastwards. Rain continues into early morning with passage of cold front, and a windy night. The day stays very cloudy and dull with outbreaks of light drizzle.
28th
HP 1036 hPa SW Ireland. A bright day with some sunny spells and intervals despite patches of cloud drifting across from the east.
29th
HP 1044 hPa Brittany. After a frosty start, a day with clear sky and uninterrupted sunshine from dawn to dusk. Precipitation from frostmelt.
30th
A hard ground frost, clear and sunny until just before 14.00 when patches of cloud drift in from the west.
31st
Another clear and frosty start, sunny but not getting above freezing until late morning when cloud moves in from the west again.
