1st
HP 1020 hPa ridging from west of Portugal, slack LP to the NW,N & NE. A chilly night for early August. A bright day with some long sunny spells but rather hazy in the morning due to extensive thin high cloud.
2nd
A misty start with visibility down to 300m at 07.30. Mist clears by 08.30 to reveal extensive high cloud with some weak and watery sunshine in mid-morning. The high cloud gradually clears in late morning to give some long sunny spells in the afternoon.
3rd
LP 976 hPa W of Ireland. Sunny and clear to start but becoming cloudy by 07.00. A cloudy morning but with some short sunny spells and intervals in the middle of the day. Increasingly cloudy in the afternoon becoming overcast, dull and cooler after 15.00 as a weak cold front passes bringing light rain briefly in the evening.
4th
LP 984 hPa W of Outer Hebrides. A long sunny period first thing but becoming more cloudy from mid-morning. More cloudy in the middle of the day and a little dull briefly at times but clearing and brightening again to give more sunny spells from mid-afternoon.
5th
A cloudy start giving way to a bright and sunny spell in mid-morning. Clouding over again in late morning and rather dull at times for the rest of the day despite a couple of sunny intervals in the afternoon.
6th
A cloudy day and rather dull from time to time. Some sunny intervals, mainly from mid-afternoon onwards into the evening.
7th
Small LP 1004 hPa SW of Cornwall, HP 1022 hPa Baltic Sea. Clear and sunny start with cloud building in late morning. Long sunny spells with a couple of cloudier spells in the afternoon.
8th
A rather murky start, with the sky clearing around 09.00 to give a long sunny spell. Becoming more cloudy particularly in spells during the afternoon but clearing again in the evening.
9th
A sunny day from sunrise to sunset with just a few patches of cloud interrupting the sunshine briefly in the afternoon.
10th
Generally cloudy with some rather dull spells. Also plenty of sunny intervals, mainly in the afternoon, but overcast by evening.
11th
A spell of light rain and drizzle from a long trailing front starting around 05.00 and clearing by 08.30. Remaining cloudy and somtimes rather dull with just a few brief sunny intervals in late morning and early afternoon. Further light rain in the night.
12th
HP 1027 hPa North Sea. LP 1000 hPa Norwegian Sea and 1014 hPa Finisterre with a long trailing front over the English Channelconnecting the two. Light rain and drizzle continues intermittently through the night, finally clearing around 08.00. Staying cloudy and sometimes dull until early afternoon when the cloud breaks to give spells of slightly hazy sunshine.
13th
LP 1010 hPa Biscay tracking NNE. A spell of moderate rain in the early hours dying out by 08.00 but staying very dull. A large thunderstorm tracks northwards from the English Channel in mid-morning bringing rain after 10.30 which is torrential for a time in the middle of the day accompanied by some lightning and rumbles of thunder during a 2 hour spell before moving away in the early afternoon.
14th
LP 1003 hPa Lincolnshire. A rather cludy day with some sunny intervals, mostly in the afternoon. Becoming overcast and dull in the evening as an occluded front tracks eastwards bringing a spell of rain which is heavy at times.
15th
LP 1007 hPa E Scotland. A cloudy and rather murky start, slowly brightening with the cloud breaking to give some sunny spells after 09.30 but also with a cloudy spell in mid-afternoon.
16th
HP 1018 HP Cornwall. Brightening around 07.30 after a cloudy start with some long sunny spells. Becoming cloudy again after midday, overcast and rather dull as the afternoon progresses.
17th
A fine start with a long period of sunshine in the morning with some patches of thin high cloud. Clouding over in early afternoon and staying overcast to the day's end.
18th
An overcast and mainly rather dull, grey day with a static band of cloud running right down the eastern side of the UK.
19th
LP 994 hPa south of Iceland at near 60°N. A rather sunny morning with patches of high cloud. Still fairly bright in the early afternoon before cloud thickens around 15.00, Overcast and dull by the evening with light rain pushing across from the west, becoming heavy after 22.30.
20th
LP 991 hPa south of Iceland, fronts from this bring the continued rain overnight, very heavy for a time just after midnight becoming lighter and clearing by sunrise. An overcast and murky start to the day, staying very cloudy and sometimes dull with just a couple of brief glimpses of sunshine.

LP 986 hPa S of Iceland, HP 1031 hPa Estonia. A bright day but with patches of cloud throughout the day giving some short sunny spells.
22nd
A sunny and hot day with patches of thin high cloud at times. More extensive cloud drifting across in late evening.
23rd
LP 999 hPa Dublin, LP 994 hPa NW of Finisterre. A bright start with a long sunny spell. Becoming cloudy by mid-morning with a spell of rain in the middle of the day from a cold front. Brightening again in the afternoon with some sunny spells, a sunny and clear end to the day.
24th
LP 994 hPa tracking ENE from Brittany along the Channel to the Straits of Dover. Outbreaks of rain all day from a bent back occlusion, prolonged and sometimes very heavy with some thunder in the afternoon. Dry spells in between with a little sunshine in mid-afternoon. Torrential rain in Tunbridge Wells causes flooding in the High Street area and The Pantiles.
25th
LP 990 hPa W of Ireland and S of Iceland. A sunny and clear start but cloud pushing in from the west by 08.00. Rain, mostly light, arrives after 13.00 and lasts until 17.00. Clearing a little in the evening to give a few sunny intervals.
26th
LP 989 hPa NW of Ireland. Yet another rainy day with fronts slowly crossing the area. Some rain in the ealry hours just before sunrise then dry for a while while remaining overcast and dull. A further spell of moderate rain in mid-morning and another dry but dull slot in the early afternoon. A third spell of mainly light rain in mid-afternoon, before a cold front clears in early evening to allow a sunny end to the day.
27th
LP 981 hPa S of Iceland & 987 hPa SE of Iceland. Overcast morning with a spell of light rain around 09.00. Cloudsheet very slowly moving away through the morning with sunny intervals developing in early afternoon and longer sunny spells later.
28th
A sunny but misty start with the mist lingering near the river. Becoming cloudy in mid-morning with a few sunny intervals and clearing more in mid-afternoon to give some longer sunny spells.
29th
LP 995 hPa NW of Hebrides at 60°N, 10°W, HP 1025 hPa Poland. Cloudy but fairly bright at first with a long sunny spell developing in midmorning. Becoming cloudy in the early afternoon with spots of rain later and a spell of rather heavy rain around 21.00.
30th
A drab and grey day with a virtually unmoving warm front draped across the south of England, no breaks in the cloudsheet and increasingly dull in the afternoon. Rather heavy showers arrive just before midnight.
31st
LP 1008 hPa Netherlands. A very poor Bank Holiday Monday. A long spell of rain starts just after sunrise with a heavy burst around 08.00. Rain stops jus after 09.00 to give a short dry spell before the next band of rain lasting through the middle of the day. Much of the afternoon is dry but very gloomy and cool under low overcast.
